Vertrouwen – Klipperaak
The Vertrouwen (Faith) has been built in 1910 for the price of 4000.00 Dutch Guilders (€ 1815.00) and was meant to transport peat across the Zuiderzee from the province of Drenthe to Holland. The peat was transported below decks as well as on the deck. In 1916, the ship was sold and the new owner used the ship mainly for the transport of shells from the Waddenzee to Holland. The Vertrouwen was sold again in 1931 and from that moment the ship was used for the transport of different kinds of goods through the inland waterways of the Netherlands, supported by a small tugboat. Through the years thereafter, the ship has become more and more unrigged and eventually a motor has been placed, until it was a motor vessel instead of a a sailing vessel. Although the ship has been enlarged in 1960, it made her final trip as a transport vessel in 1965. Eventually the ship was sold to a private owner who started to use it as a house boat. In the years to come, the ship was shortened to the original length and she has been slowly converted into a sailing vessel again. From 1990 the transformation of the ship was expedited and was equipped with a new mast, boom, gaff and sails. Nowadays the ship is used for pleasure trips on the Dutch inland waterways and the Waddenzee.
