“Beautiful lines and proportions, a manageable size to sail and also seaworthy.” The owner of the “Dawn” is full of praise for his former fishing cutter. From 1947 to 1982 the ship sailed from the Wadden Island of Texel (hence the fishing number ‘TX 28’), then until 1987 from IJmuiden with the number ‘YM31’.
The name “Dawn” refers to the fact that in the past, at dawn, fishing boats would set out to try their luck. The ship’s owner had to repair the deck, which was in very poor condition. The old engine in the ship, a Kromhout, was no longer usable.
Very unusually, the owner put back the original sail plan of this cutter. These sails are intended as “auxiliary sails” and, according to the owner, the cutter sails fine under sail from wind force four. He would still like to take his Dawn to the Baltic Sea via the Wadden Islands and the Kieler Canal.
