Connoisseurs know that the “Prospero” is a special ship. After all, it is a striker, but at 42.50 meters in length, it is about four meters longer than a “normal” striker. Also special is the engine: that is, in fact, the original Bolnes engine built in the ship in 1954. The ship was built as “Tholen.
The current owners are boaters’ children. Having grown up aboard a barge, they were delighted to purchase the “Prospero” – then called “Roelie” – in 2002. The condition of the ship was very decent at the time, as it was still in operation as a freighter.
Of course, that meant they had to completely remodel it to make it suitable for living on. They are justifiably proud that it worked out so well. To make sailing with it a little easier, they sometimes want to install a bow thruster. After all, that makes maneuvering that nearly 43 meters of steel much easier.
