Margaretha – Motor tugboat

Motor tug “Margaretha” was frankly just a mess when the current owner purchased the vessel in 1993. Over the years, everything had been tinkered with, and originality was no longer an issue. But this owner knew the answer to that.

Everything that was not original went off, and everything that did originally belong on the boat was restored or brought back on board. In addition, the original main engine was also in need of restoration. The “Margaretha” was built as the “Hendrika. That name was no coincidence, as that was the name of the wife of the client who had the ship built.

The ship was used until about 1970 for towing tugs (which are cargo ships without their own engines) and sailed mainly between Rotterdam, Maasbracht and Givet in France. Today, the Margaretha is back in full service – about three to four months a year. A tour of the Meuse, Moselle and Rhine rivers is still on the owner’s wish list.
