Historical Boating Association celebrates 50th anniversary
The Landelijke Vereniging tot Behoud van het Historisch Bedrijfsvaartuig (LVBHB) is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To celebrate, the association is organizing a 1,000-kilometer heritage tour with hundreds of historic ships, across the Netherlands.
Sixteen cities and all provinces
Tjalks, clippers, barges, botters, tugs, luxury motorcycles and many other types are participating in the heritage tour. A unique event where a changing fleet of 50 to 100 historic commercial vessels will call at all provinces from Middelburg to end in Hasselt (Ov.). Some of the fleet sails the entire trip; other ships hitch and unhitch along the way. Six weeks on the road in 15 stages and in 16 stage locations. Each stage site will focus on the history, the state of affairs today, and the future of sailing heritage. For audiences and for policymakers. With Sail-Ins for invited guests, exhibitions ashore and aboard our flagship Terra Nova, authentic cargo, invitations to all CdKs and mayors to raise the provincial and municipal flags.
Along the way, a work of art carried on a barge grows into something very special in Hasselt. Manufactured using only traditional ship crafts. Each stage location provides its own program for the public and boaters. A permanent exhibit will be set up at Terra Nova. Sixteen cities and all 12 provinces will be visited. The heritage tour begins July 6 in Middelburg and ends August 18 in Hasselt.
From July 24 to July 26, 2024 in Rotterdam
On July 24 to 26, the ships will dock at the Erfgoedhavens Rotterdam. An exhibition is set up on the “Terra Nova” at the working pier opposite the “White House” and a number of ships can be visited by appointment. Historic commercial shipping was engine of the Dutch economy and today cultural heritage still in full use for residential, recreational or charter shipping. Old films about Rotterdam’s Shipping and old harbors will be shown in the tjalk at Stadswerf Koningspoort in the Old Harbour, You are welcome!
On July 26, 2024, the fleet will set off again for the next stage location.
