Cuba – Spits

Originally named “Cuba,” this spitship has always been owned by one skipper’s family in its sailing existence. The “Cuba” carried cargo through Belgium, the Netherlands and France. The main bulk consisted of tree trunks.

In 1998, the skipper family sold the “Cuba” to its current owner. The skipper couple were 85 and 86 at the time, and the ship had not sailed for 20 years. At that time, the cargo hold had turned into a storage area. Once the ship was cleaned up, the current occupants were able to renew the hull below the waterline and convert the hold into living and studio space.

The current family finds the beauty of a ship is that you can combine super-central living and working in the heart of the city with living and working in nature.
