Now that’s a working life! For as many as 92 years, the “Alphecca” served as a tugboat. For a long time even as a real steamboat, but in 1959 the steam engine was replaced by a diesel engine. The current owner fell for the beautiful, sturdy lines of the ship as well as the fact that the ‘Alphecca’ is suitable for sailing at sea. And so this tug still does. Indeed, it is the owner’s great desire to once make the crossing from Rotterdam to England.
The “Alphecca” was built of iron and completely riveted. The ship’s original name was “Marianne. It operated in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Would you also like to experience what it’s like to sail such a tough tug? You can! In fact, the “Alphecca” is not a “houseboat,” but is used for charter cruising.
