During World War II, skipper Gerben Beijert made several dangerous trips from Drachten to Coevorden with his “Nova Cura,” as this ship was then called, to fetch peat. The people of Drachten were so grateful for this that after the war they even named a street after the ship. In 1961, the ship was decommissioned.

Beijert was the second owner, previously the ship was called “Memento Mori” and was built for Thomas Zuidema. In 1980 the ship ended up in ‘s Hertogenbosch and was converted into a houseboat by several owners. In 2013, the current skipper was offered a berth in the Maritime District.

He finds his boat not only the best place you can think of to live on in a river country, but also the most convenient. This is because he works all over the Netherlands, so if possible he just sails with his complete house to wherever he is working at the time. That saves a lot of stress in Dutch traffic!
