Port Projects Input Evening — Shared Harbor Workshop, Tree Race, Water Play Island, and “Oude meuk” Magazine

📅 Monday, November 16 🕕 6:30 p.m. 📍 Koningspoort
On November 16, we’ll take the next step following our information evening on April 17, 2025. At that event, we outlined the plans for three projects “by members, for members.” Now we’re really going to get started, and we need your help! The evening includes dinner, prepared by our experienced chef, Anne. The meal is free—in exchange for your ideas and input!
1. Summer Island: a sustainable waterway
This summer, Erfgoedhavens and the Maritime Museum collaborated on Schatgraafeiland and the Punterponton, and both were a huge hit with the public. Many other creative ideas for the pontoon also emerged along the way, so next year we’ll continue building a Summer Island, drawing on the creativity and craftsmanship of the boat owners from the Heritage Harbors.
Think of a playful, maritime activity for children, built with recycled materials. A water course featuring miniature boats from the museum’s collection, in collaboration with the De Wielewaal model boat club. And sustainable energy as a testing ground: solar panels, salt batteries, windmills. This is how we show what’s possible. The island opens in mid-April.
We’re looking for a small working group for this. Do you have any ideas, or would you like to help build or contribute your thoughts? Come by on November 16—we’ll present our plans and outline the composition of the project team. Hands-on and brainstorming sessions will follow early next year.

2. Tree Race
About thirty years ago, a sailing race was held on the Nieuwe Maas during the World Port Days. We want to revive that tradition, and the World Port Days organizers are interested. The idea: a race (or demonstration—we’re still figuring that out) for old sailing ships and historic commercial vessels. They’ll start near the Erasmus Bridge, sail to the Brienenoord Bridge, turn around, and sail back to the finish line.
Since the World Port Days apply for their permit early, we need to act quickly. That’s why we’re looking for boat owners who are willing to contribute ideas and help with the organization. The Maritime Museum, Heritage Harbors, and our racing and sailing specialist Hilbert Teeven are already on board. We want to keep the organizational aspects separate from the sailing itself, so that no one has to juggle two tasks at once.
Did you experience the organization back then, do you know anyone who did, or do you have any ideas? Come to the information evening on November 16

3. Tarwebak becomes a floating workshop
De Tarwebak is becoming a shared workshop, with a wood section and a steel section. There will soon be evenings where we will grease the surface and lay the floor. After that, we could use people to build wooden boxes in the corners. After the turn of the year, we will continue with the furnishing of the wood and steel workshops. On November 16, we will work together on the layout: we will draw on an existing floor plan how the workshop will look. Would you like to contribute ideas or help out? Let us know!

4. Old Junk: Old junk in a new format
We have now developed a plan and would like to invite you to share your ideas and get involved.
What are we going to do? – *Oude Meuk* is published once a year, either in print or digitally—for example, as a Christmas issue. It will be a kind of annual report featuring the best stories and contributions from the newsletter over the past year.
Who are we looking for? – A “liggers” editorial team: a group of “liggers” from the harbor who
- collects stories from the harbor;
- develop a format that allows people to submit their stories, such as a standardized questionnaire for each section (e.g., docks, hazards, events);
- submit the stories to us so we can include them in the newsletter.
The best stories from the newsletter are published at the end of the year (or more often) in *Oude Meuk*. We’d also like to come up with a format for that booklet, and we could use some help with putting it together and designing it.

4. Tree Race
What do we expect from you?
Stop by, share your ideas, draw with us, and let us know where you’d like to help. Every contribution is welcome, big or small.
